Lili Herbert
Lili has worked at FSM since 1992. She has a B.A. in anthropology from Boston University and an M.Ed. in elementary education from the University of Minnesota.
Before becoming Head of School in 2006, Lili served in several key roles at FSM including middle school humanities teacher, Clerk of the School Committee, director of the school’s conflict resolution program, middle school director, and admissions co-director. In 2007, Lili completed the Friends Council on Education’s Institute for Engaging Leadership in Friends Schools. Lili is a board member of the Friends Council on Education.
Lili loves gardening, tending urban chickens, reading, and traveling with her family. Lili is also a parent of two FSM alumnae. Lili is proud to hold the "longest continual enrollment by one family" award; daughters Brooks and Ruth are eight years apart, making Lili an FSM parent for 17 straight years!
Lili believes a progressive Quaker education means each student is a valued part of the community and is engaged in meaningful relationships with people, ideas, and activities.
Because it speaks to her about her work at Friends School, Lili's favorite quote is from Frederick Buechner, who describes vocation as "where your deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet."
